Wire progress to semi final with thrilling win over Hull KR

Warrington Wolves progressed to the play-off semi-final after a thrilling victory over Hull KR at Halliwell Jones Stadium. The Wire dominated the reigning champions in a performance that saw them score seven tries to reach Old Trafford — 80 minutes away from the Grand Final.

Matty Ashton was the star of the night, completing a hat-trick. Ben Currie opened the scoring for Warrington with an early try after George Williams' kick was spilled by Hull KR's Joe Burgess. Ewan Irwin converted and added a penalty goal to extend the lead.

Ashton crossed twice in the first half, though an early diving finish in the corner was overturned on review when his arm was found to be in touch. Hull KR responded with a breakaway try from Joe Burgess, but Warrington struck back on the stroke of half-time when Williams' short pass set up Kelepi Tanginoa to send Ashton over. Warrington led 12-6 at the break.

Red card turns the tide

The second half saw Hull KR reduced to 12 men when Peta Hiku was sent off for a punch on George Williams at the start of the second half. Warrington capitalised immediately with Ashton scoring his second try following quick play down the left.

Hull KR struck back through Dean Hadley, but a crucial intercept from James Bentley sparked a decisive period for Wire. Ashton completed his hat-trick before Albert Hopoate produced a sensational one-handed finish in the corner. George Williams added a drop-goal in the final stages before Toby King sealed the victory with a try, capping off his final appearance at Halliwell Jones Stadium.
