Warrington Wolves secured their place in the Betfred Super League play-offs with a 16-14 victory over Hull FC on Sunday. The win guarantees a home eliminator and keeps their top two ambitions alive.
Warrington dominated the first half, leading 12-2 at the break. George Williams kicked a penalty goal after 18 minutes before Aidan Sezer levelled for Hull FC. Leon Hayes scored the first try in the 35th minute when he collected a loose ball from a Williams high kick that Logan Moy failed to deal with. Matty Ashton added a second try moments later after Hull FC fumbled another high kick, with Toby King setting up the score.
Second Half Drama
Josh Thewlis extended Warrington's lead early in the second half, breaking through three defenders to touch down. Hull FC mounted a comeback with tries from Ethan O'Neill and Tom Briscoe in quick succession, setting up a tense finale. Warrington held their nerve to secure victory.
Josh Thewlis and Joe Philbin returned to the starting line-up after missing the previous three games through injury. Hull FC played most of the match with 12 men after Joe Batchelor was sin binned in the opening 30 seconds for a high tackle on Arron Lindop, who required a head injury assessment. Ligi Sao was also sent to 12 men in the second half for a dangerous high tackle on Ashton.
The victory marks Warrington's sixth win in 29 days.
